Which Version of the Fabric Should I Use?

A new version of the Broadband Serviceable Location Fabric (Fabric) is made available in conjunction with the opening of each new biannual filing round of broadband availability data, on or around June 30 and December 31 of each year.  When that occurs, the FCC’s Fabric contractor, CostQuest, makes that Fabric data files available to entities that have executed a Fabric license agreement, including internet service providers, governmental entities, and other entities. Current licensees will be emailed a link to access the updated files and do not need to take any actions to request the files or renew their license agreement.

Entities submitting fixed broadband availability data as of June 30, 2023, in the BDC system must use the June 2023 version of the Fabric when preparing and uploading data for that filing, the deadline for which is September 1, 2023.  In addition, entities submitting bulk Fabric challenges after June 30, 2023, must base their submissions on the June 2023 version of the Fabric.

The National Broadband Map currently displays availability data as of December 31, 2022 and the December 2022 version of the Fabric.  This version of the Fabric will be displayed on the map until availability data as of June 30, 2023 is published on the map in Fall 2023.  Bulk fixed availability challenges should therefore continue to be based on the December 2022 version of the Fabric until that time.  (Individual challenges to both Fabric locations and fixed availability data, which are submitted directly using the National Broadband Map challenge interface, will also continue to be based on the December 2022 version of the Fabric until the June 30, 2023 availability data are published.)
